Voting excercise,let all women participate

Recently i conducted a survey on the role of women as voters or aspirants in the forthcoming general elections.As we all know that the general elections are due towards the end of this year after president Mwai Kibaki said that they won't be pushed towards early next year.A section of politicians had wanted the elections to be pushed to early next year so that they could facilitate for minimum costitutional reforms. I decided to visit various places in order to get the views of women on this topic.What came out clearly is that majority of them are facing situations which might hinder them for actively participating in this excercise.

Mary Mumbi for example is a mother of three children and lives at subukia in Nakuru area.She says that she does not see the reason of her getting involved with the excercise for it will not change her destiny in any way.She say that her husband is in anticipation for the election and has identified the leaders and the party he will vote for.I don't think i am going to vote!What for?Poverty and insecurity are overtaking us!The gap between the poor and the rich peoople is widening and no matter how a poor man tries to work hard inorder to improve her livelyhood;nothing seems to change.
Mumbi says she does not have a voter's card and irrespective of the ECK pushing the registration deadline to 31st of this month,she says she will not register.i will loose nothing are her concluding words.
Naserian is a young lady aged 24 and a computer student.She lives in Kajiado town.I meet with her on her way home from college and want to find out from her how well prepared she is for this year general elections which are expected in the month of December.I am not sure whether am ready to vote.Naserian says in her community majority of women don't take the voting excercise seriously simply because they have been socialised into believing that politics is the men world and women should simply keep off.The issue of gender imbalance has taken roots my community for many years and it seems like women are not ready to embrace the change in political scenario.Naserian says on the voting day, only a few women who turns out for the excercise.Most women are forced to wait for their men conterparts to vote first; before they are allowed to do so and have to leave the polling station immediately.They can't monitor the election process in any way and those who tries to do so are taught lessons by their husbands through thorough beating.

I am surprised to learn that even though Naserian is a registered voter, she has not made up her minds whether she will vote.She says she is not interested in any way with the voting excercise.I know that majority of women in our community who are aged 18 and above don't participate in the excercise due to ignorance.They don't really know what leadership is all about and a few of us who knows have given up trying.To be ignorant is quite costly although the law says ignorance is not a defence.
Mrs Janet otieno is a teacher cum business woman and a mother of 8 children. she comes from Nyanza province.She says that there is a great need for civic education in her community if women are expected to participate in the voting excercise during this year general elections.Janet says women need to change their attitude concerning elections.she is worried because even though women makes 51 per cent of the kenyan voters they don't really know that they have the power to put in place the leadership which will benefit them wholistically.Janet point out that many kenyan women are the bread winners in their familes like in her case and it is only them who knows what a bad government truly means.

She says she will participate in the voting excercise because she is not happy with a few issues which have not been addressed so far regardless of the current member of parliament promising to do something about it.Take for example the issue of poor infrustructure,insecurity among others;in most cases it is the women who fall victims when such problems arises.We have had cases of rape in my area,not forgetting robbery with violence which is rampant here.Many lives have been lost as a result of this and property worthy million of shillings get stolen any other day whenever these robbers breaks into our houses.We live in constant fear.I hope that my vote will help to elect accountable leaders who will have our interests as kenyans at heart.

Stella Nduku a curio and honey seller from makindu.She is ready to vote during this year general elections.She says she is not surprised by the way her women counterparts are dragging their feet if though they know that elections are expected few months from now.Many have not yet registered.I know that they are waiting for eleventh hour so that they can rush to register themselves.I have seen it happens before says Nduku.She says that women should be encouraged to participate in the voting excercise for they make the majority of kenyan voters.They should know of their rights and the power they have as voters.They should be prepared to vote out the bad leaders we have had in the past.Nduku says women should do away with the strereotypes that the society has concerning them.
Women parliamentary aspirants are seen as prostitutes and people who have lost direction in their lives.She says a case at hand is the bishop Margaret Wanjiru of the Jesus is Alive Ministries saga.She was ridiculed and per pivate life brought to public domain by her political rivals,when she declared her interest as a parliamentary aspirant for Starehe constituency.All these was done to her by her enemies who wanted her to quit politics.Men uses the stereotype that we women are our worst enemies but i choose to differ with this.Why are men so selfish that they can't allow their women to go and vote?My husband did that for me in the year 2002 general election but this year am making sure that i will vote when the time comes.They tell their women to remain at home on the voting day so that they can take care of the diomestic chores.I have faith in women and believe that if they are given a fair playing ground in politics of the day;they can make better leaders for they know what they want in leadership.Many are forced to become breadwinners of the families as their husbands engage in alcoholism and drug and thus becoming irresponsible.I am urging all women in Kenya who have reached the voting age to take advantage of the extention of the registration deadline and register as voters.They should make sure that they vote for it will bring change in governance issues.

Those were Nduku's parting words.I leave the verdict in the hands of Kenyan women.Will they vote for their leader's of choice?Time will tell although what came out strongly is the need for civic education country wide.ECK,the ball in in your court now!

TRUE LOVE , PURE LOVE, WHO CAN FIND IT? A POEM COMPOSED BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS

TRUE LOVE , PURE LOVE, WHO CAN FIND IT? A POEM COMPOSED BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS

1)   True love and pure love, who can find it?
Who can give it out for the sake of his friends?
Yes, true love and pure love is hard to find!
For it's costly! It costed someone's life; who knew no sin,
For us to be loved and redeemed.
John 3:16 talks about the man Jesus Christ, gave away his life,
For me, for you ,for all of us.
Because He loved us that much.

2)  True love and pure love, the love straight from the heart,
Overflowing on the outside,
He gave it all my brother, my sister,
For the sake of His friends, who were so sinful and thus rejected by GOD.
With no one to love or pardon them;
He became a friend to them,
A friend referred to in the book of proverbs 17:17;
A friend who loves at all times.

 3)  True love and pure love,
The love Christ had for the church.
John 15:13 says.......Greater love has no-one than this;
That he laid down his life for his friends.
He loves us that much, to the point of death,
At the cross of Calvary.

4) True love and pure love,
The love that Christ gave for his church,
The love He is still offering today,
For the sake of his brides to be.
True love and pure love...is all about loving unconditionally,
Loving without reservations, loving the unlovable, undeserving;
Yes, loving them all till end.
True love and pure love is found in Jesus Christ.

5)  Are you saved my brother, my sister?
Do you have Jesus in your heart?
If you do....
Then, you have that true love and pure love within you,
The love I am talking about today?
Then, share it with your friends and become an ambassador of Christ;
To the entire world and you will be spreading that true love and pure love,
That Christ has for all of us today.....amen.

OH KENYA, MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, MY MOTHERLAND. A POEM BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS.

OH KENYA, MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, MY MOTHERLAND. A POEM BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS.

Oh Kenya, my beautiful country, my motherland.
What has become of you?
The beautiful green cover that you use to have,
Yes, those forests filled with singing birds, wild animals, butterflies;
Are now gone...yes,gone gone , gone forever.

Oh Kenya, my beautiful country, my motherland,
This treasure that I adore most, given by my maker, GOD.
What has become of you?
Those beautiful rivers which use to run and emptying themselves;
In to bigger rivers like Athi and Tana.
Causing them to swell,swell,swell with waters reaching the river beds.
Have dried up.
Yes, gone,gone forever and forgotten.

Oh, Kenya, my beautiful country, my motherland,
What has become of you?
The flora and fauna you used to boast of, is now destroyed,
Gone, gone forever.
Oh my fellow Kenyans, my country men,
Can you stop cutting down trees and burning charcoal illegally,
Can you stop for a minute and think what kind of a future,
Your children and their generation will have?

Oh Kenya my beautiful country, my motherland,
Who robbed you of your natural resources? Is it not man?
He boast of farming near water catchment areas,
he boast of grazing in virgin forests and cutting down trees for timber,
But instead, nature is watching ready to revenge on him,
And this time with all it's might. Yes, no rain,no food,no animals,no forests, nothing;
Yes,I hereby quote Professor Wangari  Mathai once said;
"Nature is quite unforgiving, if you destroy it, it will destroy in return.
Watch out!, for that is what it is doing now......

What is the solution to this problem my dear Kenyans ?,
Respect nature, avoid illegal cutting down of trees,
Avoid farming near water catchment areas like Mau forest,
Stop overgrazing and avoid water and air pollution.
My fellow Kenyans, wake up, let's save our country Kenya,
Yes, let's save our motherland.
Yes, plant a lot of trees, let's practice the right farming methods.
Together, let's make Kenya better than the way it is now;
For the sake of the future generations.

Thank you. God bless you. MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS.

GROWING DEEPER IN GODLY CHARACTER AS GOD'S CHILD INSTEAD OF EMBRACING CHARISMA (PART TWO) BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS

GROWING DEEPER IN GODLY CHARACTER AS GOD'S CHILD INSTEAD OF EMBRACING CHARISMA (PART TWO) BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS

A man or a woman of Godly character lives a great legacy behind when they die. We all face similar temptations but we choose how to respond and react,either to go for the kill or consider the consequences of our actions.

HOW DO WE DEVELOP GODLY CHARACTER'S

1)  Fear of the Lord. (Proverbs 3:5-8)
The fear of the Lord is what will lead us to having a Godly character in us. To stand firm in Him. Let's have Godly standards as His beloved children.

 2) By hiding the word of God in our hearts all the times (Psalm 119:9-11). Let's be filled with the word of God in our hearts and do what it expects of us as His children.

3) Choices.
Developing our character is always a choice we make. We have character flaws, but each of us should make deliberate efforts to work on our characters. (Make bad choices). When we take shortcuts; they will cut us short instead and destroy us completely.

4) The choice of people whom we hang out with as friends. One writer said "Show me the friends and I will tell you who you are"...This is very true in our lives for light and darkness cannot walk together. Gets Godly Bible believing people. Partner with your fellow Christians.

5) Commitment and Dedication to God's work and His ways.
God is looking for people who will say" I stand to be counted on this worthwhile mission of living in integrity and winning souls for Him even if it means standing alone. Joshua challenged the children of Israel to choose whom to serve....but as for him and his family he they were dedicated to serve the Living GOD. Others examples includes JOSEPH and PHOTIPHAR'S WIFE, Daniel in the lion's den, Shadrack, Meshark and Abedinego. I really love the movie" The GLADIATOR"....It talks about this too.

Today, we have role models in our midst, men and women of GOD who walks daily in integrity e.g. world known neurosurgeon Ben CARSON, the late mother TERESSA e.t.c. My brothers and sisters let us be dedicated to things that are of noble cause in our lives and the lives of other people. Let's remember that aggravation and challenges that we normally go through as God's children is what forms the Godly characters in us. It reflects maturity in GOD and the faith that we have in Him. (Romans 5:3)...Don't be conformed in to the patterns of this world e.g., don't do drugs the will destroy you and your life in due season, don’t murder, fornicate, commit adultery, commit suicide e.g. because if you do so there will always be some consequences to be faced individually. Don't make decisions that are against GOD'S perfect will in you.

It is in this 21st century that we are witnessing on daily basis the degradation of moral standards among our youth and children and thus affecting family units. Yet, in decisive moments and times like this, it is always wise to pray for our families and nations as well. Weak family units translate into a weak nation and vice versa.

For those of you who have gone back to the world or backslidden...I have some good news for you today! God is a God of second chance!!!A righteous man may fall seven times but he rises up against the obstacles in his or her life. We should beware of our strengths. Be careful when we think you are strong in your faith...it can be our own doing sometimes. Always depend upon GOD even when you thing you are doing great salvation wise. Remember where we are strong is where we fail sometimes for devil knows this too well. Our strengths can become our weakness if we are not careful. We should always know GOD IS A HOLY GOD and we ought to walk in holiness as He is.

Remember that GODLY character in a man never dies. Character ensures the longevity of your career, vocation, ministry, family, and your whole self. Let us choose to have a Godly character in us and be filled with the fear of GOD which is the beginning of wisdom. Let's be Godly role models to others as we serve Christ in His vineyard. Have Godly character in you forever....AMEN

GOD BLESS YOU MIGHTILY.

GROWING DEEPER IN GODLY CHARACTER AS GOD'S CHILD INSTEAD OF EMBRACING CHARISMA (PART ONE) BY MARGARET FAVOUR BLESSINGS

Judges 13:1-5, 1st CORINTHIANS 3:1-5 the world embraces appearances thus the slogan "Image is everything". It applauses two major things according to its standards.
1)  APPEARANCE
2)  CHARISMA (i.e.) talents and abilities e.g. celebrities in the music world and actors in Hollywood, Hollywood and Hollywood.
A good example in the Bible is Samson. HE had a head start from the very beginning. An angel announcing of his birth. He was a Nazarite-totally dedicated to God from conception. He was cut out for that purpose. Samson was a judge: Judges led war against other nations. His job was cut out /guaranteed. Samson was anointed of GOD. The most strong and popular man in his time (era). He was unstoppable; he did that which pleased his heart even if it was against his parents wish or GOD’S. Samson was truly amazing man!

He was a judge and a ruler, a charismatic leader. He could master other people. He controlled others while still impressing some. But Samson morally weak. He didn't have the character of God in him and thus did whatever pleased him even though it was against God's will and purpose for him.
He was a) PRAYERLESS
              b) CARELESS
              c) POWERLESS

He got defeated by his enemies the Philistines though God avenged for him at the end of his life. He lived to
bear the consequences of his sins and lost his two eyes to his enemies. The enemy used Delilah to entice him into sin though a "Nazarite of God from birth"

we as Christians should not walk in according to flesh and blood but in accordance to GOD'S will and purpose. Remember that, it is only character that can keep up at the top of your successes. We must choose to develop our characters always. Character I s a combination of qualities that are desirable. Character is what we "THINK AND NEVER SHARE". How we react to our success and failures.

Charismatic people pull a crowd whenever they go.  Yet character is what will keep you going when you eventually reach the top of your career or ministry e.t.c. We should not copy the way of this world. We should not be worldly and canal . The process of character building or growth takes a long time. Remember you can win a GRAMMY AWARD/NOBEL PEACE PRIZE within a very short time BUT, character takes a long time to develop and mature.

Spiritual maturity comes as a result of a developed character in Christ Jesus. You can hit the limelight the world best musician, actor, rally driver and still perish in sin if you don't have a Godly character in you BUT those who have a desire to be rooted and anchored in Christ are never ashamed. They are upright in their walk with Christ and strong in their faith.

Remember that gifts and talents are developed overnight but character takes time to be formed and mastered. Character is formed in the dark, in your closet as you pray and seek God's will and ways day and night. GOD ultimately uplifts people of character(e.g JOSEPH AND DANIEL OF the BIBLE). People who don't comprise with sin. People who says “I know that there is a GOD in heaven whom I fear and live for, whom I am accountable to in all my deeds and actions.

Remember that, we are not supposed to fit in the world but the world is supposed to fit in us. Our goals and standards are set high above in GOD. Let us seek to know GOD the more, to read the bible and choose not to conform to the patterns of this sinful world.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

MY PERSONAL NOTE ON MY BLOG WHEN I GOT HIRED FOR MY SECOND JOB IN A CHRISTIAN MEDIA HOUSE ON 25/04/08.

by Margaret Favour Blessings on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 2:22pm
....I am passionate about what I do career wise.  I for a new job as a Radio and TV reporter and got the job. I will be working for a Christian Media station. It will be my second as a journalist and I are determined to make best out of it and especially now that I have a great understanding on new ethics and a caring heart as a person.

I know that GOD will help me in my new endeavor because I truly love my job. I may not have much of a choice now but I believe soon I will go internationally.

Much as I am looking forward into having a comfortable and a happy life as  a journalist ;I have also to remember that life is not all about money,luxuries,fast cars and fancy clothes though it is okay if one can afford them.
Good Godly life is all about responsibility, dignity and respect. Being a person of integrity at all times, not compromising one character and faith in GOD if one is saved.
May GOD help me to deliver that which is expected of me by my news editor.

"SCHOOL FEES FOR PETER KARANJA"

"SCHOOL FEES FOR PETER KARANJA"

by Margaret Favour Blessings on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 2:22pm
AN URGENT APPEAL TO MY FACEBOOK FRIENDS.

AN URGENT APPEAL TO KENYANS OF GOODWILL.

Peter Karanja who is aged 18 and a third born in a family of six children is appealing to all Kenyans of goodwill to help him raise his school fees which amount to 18,627 inclusive of tuition money food and accommodation at KOMOTHAI BOY'S HIGH SCHOOL in RUIRU.

KARANJA though a very bright young man would have been in form four by now if it was not for the hard life he had to endured…being in school and out of school due to lack of school fees and sometimes when the situation get worse he could stay out of school for over a year. This made me repeat some classes though a very bright student by then.

The official announcement of last year K.C.P.E results last December brought a lot of joy and high expectation in KARANJA’S life who was by then looking forward to joining a good provincial school. His prayers were answered when he got an invitation to join KOMOTHAI BOY’S high school which is a good provincial school and her where her mother’s family lives. Not knowing his joy was short lived and that get school fees would be a challenge KARANJA had a time of rejoicing and even looking forward to reporting date which was suppose to be on 4TH FEBRUARY 2010 while last reporting date was on 5th FEBRUARY of the same month..

His parents Alice Nashuru and Lawrence Mbao had not saved any money for educating there boy even though they knew he was a bright person at school. The mother who I had known for quite sometime approached me and shared this with me. I had carried her story while working in one of the Media houses as a reporter when she was had made an appeal to people of good will to help her raise money to enable her undergo an operation to remove a palate that was inserted in one of her hips to help join the bones together after being hit by a car near WITEITHIE STAGE as she was returning home from her friend’s garden where she had gone to help them with digging .The accident was hit and run vehicle and it was never found.

The impoverished parents have been housed at a church compound in a one roomed corrugated house says they survive by God’s grace. They have to feed their six children. Three of them are still in primary school. The first born reached class eight and did not go to secondary school due to lack of school fees. Their second born dropped out of school while in class 6.Thairu the forth born is in class 4 while Mercy who is their fifth born is in class 5 and Hanna their last born is in class one. Lawrence and his wife Alice have been running up and down trying to look for help from friends and relatives but without success. They took their son to a nearby school at RIVERSIDE ESTATE along Outering road and managed to pay 2,000 shillings which they have been given by some of their friends. They were left with a balance of 2,500 shillings. They now says that they son has been sent home several times to get the remaining balance.

Among the place these parents have sought for help includes Immaculate sisters next to HURUMA GIRLS Nyasa road EASTLANDS NAIROBI, Kariobangi CDF office, REDEEMED church HURUMA, apart from seeking personal audience with the former Starehe MP MAINA KAMANDA. Though they have not really succeeded in their efforts but they believe that GOD will intervene in their situation.

For those of you who might be willing to get in touch with the family you can talk to Mr GITHINJI. His number is O728714395. HELP this young man to continue with his school at KOMOTHAI BOYS HIGH SCHOOL.

Kind Regards.
